It's impromptu day off time, because the furnace broke and someone needs to be home when the repairman comes. :D

The Seattle climate makes this an inconvenience, yes, but not dangerous, so with a couple extra blankets on the beds and one around the fish tank everybody got through the night just fine. (The house I grew up in had no central heating, actually, just a wood stove in the kitchen and no one ever suffered for it.)

The inconvenience of the cold is more than balanced by the opportunity for a day alone at home. I'm cleaning because cleaning is the only thing I can do without feeling guilty about not writing.* But I've got the laptop out (obviously) on the table and I'm writing a line now and again as I pass through the room.

A good day for me and one for you as well, I hope.

* I find that I actually enjoy cleaning as long as it's not the high pressure oh-dear-god-someone's-coming-over-shove-all-this-crap-in-a-drawer kind.

Okay, so I was totally going to work on that story last night. But then I clicked on the "Collars" tag at the AO3 and, wow, there went the evening. Not much there at the moment but one thing led to another and I ended up reading Darkrose's Art of the Deal series, which is wonderful in the way of fine chocolates. You open the box, look in, and say to yourself, "Oh, this will never satisfy." But then they do; oh yes, they do. What a marvelous little collection of stories!

Also, how did I miss this? Vin Diesel confirms Riddick sequels? I think I need a moment alone.

Seriously, you have no idea how many of my narrative kinks both Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick hit dead on. And Pitch Black was actually a good movie. I don't fin Vin Diesel personally attractive, but I have a competence kink a mile wide and the character Riddick is, like, competence embodied. The IGN article says they're not working with much money (understandably so), but that might be a good thing; Chronicles was rather bloated. So yes, this is all rather far off but I am quite excited.

I'm posting right now just to push that last post further down the screen. I won't take it down—I want this journal to be a place I can talk openly—but that doesn't mean I want to look at it while I try to feel better. I went to the gym last night in an effort to punish my body in a way which would actually be somewhat constructive. It worked well enough for me to eat dinner, although I am now sore as fuck.

Also, I may have committed Kradam deathfic? Cheerful deathfic? I don't know. It seemed like a good idea at the time. But I'm sick of my growing pile of half-finished drawer fic so this will be finished and it will be posted, bad idea or no. Maybe tonight.

In an effort to give this post some semblance of a purpose, I'll just say that I really want a journal style based off A List Apart, because that is seriously the hottest thing on the Internet. I <3 you, ALA, with your pleasing use of negative space and muted contrast.
