Friending Post
Dec. 16th, 2009 12:59 pmI was active in several anime fandoms back in the mailing list days, but fell out of touch when folks started moving to LJ. I have no real interest in reassuming that old fannish identity. I was a seventeen year-old girl the last time I posted a story online. Now I'm 25, and not so much a girl.
Now I'm just a lurker.
Unfortunately, there's really no good way to emerge from lurker-dom without looking like a creepy stalker. I wish I could just declare Lurker-Amnesty Day and have done with it, but I can't, so...
The easiest thing I can think of to do is to say nice things about all you fine people I've just added. Everyone likes nice things, right?

I have no idea when you find the time to sleep. You do so many things and all of them are wonderful. Your work dragged me into Idol fandom, which, I am discovering, is a very fun place to be. (You wrote fic for the Coldfire trilogy. That is instant awesome.)

I followed a
metafandom link to your LJ ages ago and have been checking back, happily, ever since. As someone who has also taught in a community college, and hopes to do so again someday, I find the glimpses of academic life you provide to be quite entertaining.
I was raised in an environment actively hostile to the discussion of issues of race, gender, and sexuality. Your journal has done much to help me examine the prejudices I carry. Thank you.

You are my favorite mod (compiler?) for
metafandom and you have the single greatest icon in existence. I don't know much about you, but you always link to interesting things.

Ancient cultures are awesome. Not saying I know anything about those you study, but it's really fun to read someone else talk about them. Also, you are an amazing writer. Your nuanced humor cracks me up every time.

Your story Life (Sometimes It Washes Over Me) absolutely floored me. It is breathtakingly beautiful and utterly heartbreaking. You have hypnotoad listed in your interests; again, instant awesome. (I once cosplayed hypnotoad. It was amazing.) Your "daily happiness" posts always remind me, too, of what I have to be happy about.

You and Mark have created a wonderful place where I feel truly welcome. You knit, you code, you write--the true triple threat! I stand in awe.

Your blunt and unabashed kinkiness is inspirational. You have the remarkable ability to get really pissed-off and rant about something without ever lowering yourself to the level of those you rant against. That's really cool. Your writing is also inspirational, but in more of a sexy-times way. You also rec things which are frequently awesome.
Now to post this before another bout of delurking panic hits and I delete the whole thing...
