Status update

As I have been drinking this evening, I'm not even going to try to mess with "context," "transitions," or other such rhetorical fluff. You get punctuation. Be happy.

Topics which deserve their own post:
  • The awesome time I had at Sakura-con the weekend before last and the even more awesome loot I got. Signed Trigun production art? Why, yes.

  • The even more awesome loot I got at the Propworx Stargate auction. It may well be the most awesome loot ever. For, lo, behold Daniel Jackson's glasses. I have no idea how many hero pairs there are--for all I know, Michael Shanks could be changing glasses at each take. But I have these, and they are glorious.

  • I have started learning Adobe Premiere. (Does anyone know where I could find helpful tutorials for beginners? Because oh god so many buttons.)

In which shit gets political:
  • Apropos of nothing, I'm really irritated when people within the LGBT community make disparaging comments about polygamy or polyamory. It's 2010. Can we stop throwing people off the bus now?

  • I had lunch with my mom a couple weeks ago. We're eating, making small talk, and then she lowers her voice so people at other tables can't overhear and asks, "What do you call it when a woman is married to another woman?" Apparently, one of her coworkers is a lesbian. I'm like, "She's her wife. Or some people prefer 'partner.'" My mom makes this horrible little scrunched-up face and says "I'll use partner." I was shocked. I'd never considered "partner" to be a cop-out term. For me, the word has very positive connotations--far more positive than "husband" or "wife." The whole experience was icky (as lunch with mother usually is).

In which shit gets personal:
  • My therapist said I should think about starting a blog. Apparently I'm emotionally repressed and overly critical of myself. I am shocked to hear this. Shocked, I tell you. (That was internet sarcasm, btw.)

  • I'm still in a pretty big writing funk, but I'm eyeing this [community profile] kinked big bang. I have a bunny for some original fic, but about zero chance of actually writing it without a deadline to work towards or a beta to make it presentable. We shall see. It's likely that I'll still chicken out.

  • Random fact? Rabbits are terrifying. They seriously freak me out--I had a rabbit as a child and it was really mean. Plot bunnies do not strike me as cute and cuddly.

Here's hoping I have not in fact failed at grammar somewhere in here. I'm off to keep drinking.
